ABOUT THE LOCAL AREA

Coastline Coastline Spain's Costa Blanca
Enjoying an average of 300 days of sunshine a year Spain's Costa Blanca has one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline in Europe with a superb all year round climate and miles and miles of pure white "Blue Flag" sandy beaches. A warm welcome is always extended by the local Spanish people and it is not surprising that this area of Spain has become a popular resort for British and European holidaymakers.

Harbour Harbour The Port of Alicante
The Port of Alicante spreads out below the magnificent castle of Santa Barbara which sits high on Bencantil Hill and overlooks the harbour and picturesque Santa Cruz quarter which dates back to the middle ages. There is a mixture of modern and ancient buildings that have kept Alicante's heritage in this vibrant Spanish sea port.

There is a palm tree lined Esplanade which runs parallel with the port and is paved with exquisite mosaics and fringed with bars, restaurants and cafes. The town is a Mecca for shoppers with specialist shopping malls and boutiques. Alicante Airport is located just 8 miles south of the city.

LM View LM View La Marina and Locality of the Villa
The Spanish Villa itself is situated in the La Marina Urbanisation (near San Fulgencio) on the side of a slow incline adjacent to a green belt area of conservation. Because of this building has not been permitted over two stories high so a feeling of open space exists around the Villa. All building work was completed some time ago and this has allowed the area to become established with the trees that line the roads and also all the plants and shrubs have flourished in homeowners gardens. The streets are clean and well maintained and the bins are emptied every night!

Consum Consum The Villa is within easy reach of local shops, bars, restaurants and banks and there are two excellent supermarkets with Spanish, English and European foods on sale. You can take a lazy walk to do some shopping and have a drink outside in the sunshine at one of the many bars which are nearby. There are also newsagents and the supermarkets have there own in-store bakeries for fresh bread every day. The bars and restaurants in La Marina are reasonably priced and very family friendly. On Thursdays and Sundays there is also a local market selling all kinds of goods including locally grown fruits, food, sweets, shoes, clothes, leather goods and many other items.

Beach Beach The Local Beach of La Marina
The beach at La Marina backs up to pine groves and so is not overlooked by high rise buildings. The pace of life here is much slower than in the towns so the local Spanish people favour this beach rather than those of Alicante, Torrevieja, Santa Pola and Guardamar. During the summer months there is a beach bar located on the beach itself and there is also a large bar/restaurant which is open most of the year. The beach is about 10 minutes drive from the Villa, or if you are not having a car, we can recommend an English Taxi Driver who can take you down and get you back for a small charge.

La Marina Sports Complex sportscomp La Marina Sports Complex
The Villa has its own pool but 10-15 minutes walk away is the La Marina Sports Complex with it's open air pool, slides and kiddies area. There is a bar, crazy golf course, crown green bowling, pool table and quite often live entertainment in the evening. The complex also runs several classes for various past times including dancing and is the main meeting place for many of the residents of the immediate area. If you want to meet people this is the place to do it.

Golf Courses and Torrevieja
The area of Costa Blanca is complemented by three main golf courses; Las Ramblas, Villa Martin and Campoamar, together with leisure marinas where charter fishing can easily be found. Further inland are the fragrant orange groves and pine woodlands.

Torrevieja Torrevieja The nearby town of Torrevieja offers a superb range of facilities and amenities, fabulous shops, hypermarkets, bars and restaurants. There is also a weekly market offering a tremendous selection of fresh fruit, vegetables, meat and locally caught fish.

Other Attractions in the Area
By car, the villa is in within easy reach of Alicante and Benidorm with Barcelona about 5 hours away. From Denia, about 2 hours drive away, ferries are available to the beautiful island of Ibiza.

Benidorm Benidorm A one hour drive to Benidorm allows you to visit the city itself or you can try out the Terra Mitica Theme Park, a kind of Alton Towers, or Aqualandia, a water park with loads of slides and fun pools. Next door to Aqualandia is Mundo Mar (Sea World) with dolphin shows, seals and many other attractions.
